- In an effort to increase the amount of time Web surfers spend watching videos on its site, YouTube flipped the switch on a major redesign Thursday afternoon that emphasizes channels of content. The move comes one month after YouTube announced deals with dozens of independent producers to supply it with 100 channels of original programming. "We're trying very hard to marry the best of TV and the best of online," YouTube VP of product development Shishir Mehrotra said at an event at the company's San Bruno, Calif., headquarters.
